The equipment

One laboratory, many instruments.

New opportunities are developed through the continuous work of the De Grandi laboratory, staffed by highly qualified personnel. The laboratory, dedicated to research into new materials and processes, is equipped with a range of analytical instruments: an FTIR spectrometer, a laser particle size analyser, and instruments for organic synthesis for polyurethane dispersion.

The laboratory operates within the quality system, running all the procedures for verifying incoming raw material specifications and for quality control of production and finished products. De Grandi also has a physical testing laboratory for the characterisation of polymeric materials, with a dynamometer and durometers.

The extension

A 250 square metre laboratory.

In 2017 De Grandi further strengthened its commitment to research with a new 250 square metre laboratory, equipped with instruments to take research to the next level. It acts as the link with production, as well as being an effective means of controlling it.

It is where an idea becomes a trial, and a trial becomes a product: the bridge between research and the production line.

The testing

Feasibility and quality trials.

The laboratory makes it possible to carry out feasibility trials on new products and quality tests on finished products, with equipment that reproduces the entire production process at small scale.

Contract micronization

Test jet mill

A small jet mill for micronization trials on minimal quantities of product.

Twin-screw extruder

Co-rotating twin-screw extruder with injection press: produces the specimens for DG HF 2000 testing.

Mixers and kneaders

Laboratory scale, for preparing pre-dispersions and compounds.

Plastograph

For small quantities of compound and their characterisation.

FTIR and laser sizer

FTIR spectrometer and laser particle size analyser for analysis.

Dynamometer and durometers

Physical laboratory for the characterisation of polymeric materials.

FAQ

The laboratory at a glance

What does the De Grandi research laboratory do?

The De Grandi laboratory develops new materials and processes with highly qualified staff, and carries out quality control on incoming raw materials and on finished products. It runs feasibility trials on new products and quality checks, acting as a bridge between research and production.

How is the De Grandi laboratory equipped?

The laboratory has analytical instruments such as an FTIR spectrometer and a laser particle size analyser, instruments for organic synthesis, and a physical testing laboratory with a dynamometer and durometers for polymer characterisation. For process trials it has a small jet mill, a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with injection press, mixers and a plastograph.

What is the 250 sqm laboratory built in 2017?

In 2017 De Grandi built a new 250 square metre laboratory to take its research to the next level. It acts as the link between research and production and is also a means of controlling it, allowing feasibility trials on new products and quality tests on finished products.

Does the laboratory also support contract work?

Yes. The laboratory equipment, including the test jet mill, makes it possible to assess how customers' materials behave before contract processing, and to define the most suitable processing conditions. It is the technical support that accompanies the micronization service.
