What is powder micronization?

Micronization is a physical process that reduces the particle size of a powder, typically from around 100 microns down to about one micron. In a jet mill the particles are accelerated by compressed air and break by colliding with each other, with no mechanical grinding media and therefore no contamination.

Micronization

From 100 microns to one.

Micronization reduces the particle size of a powder down to a few microns. The finer the particle, the larger the specific surface area available to react and to disperse in a compound.

Above roughly 45–50 microns powders tend to form agglomerates that resist dispersion. Micronization takes the particle size well below that threshold.

Our story

From trade company to manufacturer.

De Grandi S.r.l. was founded in 1936 in Vigevano, at the height of the footwear industry's growth, marketing chemicals for the rubber industry: accelerators, antioxidants, processing aids, reinforcing fillers and metal oxides.

Manufacturing began in the early 1990s at the Tromello plant, where the process is carried out with jet-mill plants. In 2018 the site was extended with an applications laboratory.
