1936

Founded as a trade company.

De Grandi S.r.l., founded as a trade company in 1936, specialises in Industrial Chemicals. The products marketed for the rubber industry were mainly chemicals — accelerators, antioxidants, processing aids — reinforcing fillers such as carbon black and precipitated silicas, inert fillers such as kaolins, and metal oxides of zinc and magnesium.

Through the following decades the company operated at the heart of the footwear industry’s growth, centred on Vigevano.

The shift

From trader to manufacturer.

The decisive transformation came in the early 1980s, when the footwear boom was already in decline. Drawing on the technological experience it had accumulated, and with the acquisition of the Tromello (Pavia) plant in the 1990s, De Grandi became a manufacturer in its own right.

This is the step that defines the company as it is today: no longer only distribution of chemicals, but production with its own plants.

The foundation

The idea: micronization.

The founding idea, the one on which every company builds its success, was for De Grandi powder micronization. The technology of physically treating powders to obtain micronized material had been known for years, but it had never been applied methodically to the rubber and plastics industry.

To micronization the company later added the chemical synthesis of a halogen free flame retardant, DG HF 2000. Two capabilities that today go hand in hand.

FAQ

De Grandi at a glance

When was De Grandi founded?

De Grandi S.r.l. was founded in 1936 in Vigevano, Italy, as a trade company specialising in Industrial Chemicals, marketing chemical products for the rubber industry: accelerators, antioxidants, processing aids, reinforcing fillers and metal oxides.

What does De Grandi do today?

De Grandi is a manufacturer specialising in two activities: powder micronization, carried out on a contract basis and on its own products with jet-mill plants, and the synthesis of a halogen free flame retardant, DG HF 2000, for plastic materials. Production takes place at the plant in Tromello, in the province of Pavia.

How did it become a manufacturer?

The transformation took place between the 1980s and 1990s. With the decline of the footwear boom, De Grandi drew on its accumulated technological experience and, by acquiring the Tromello plant in the 1990s, moved from distributing chemicals to manufacturing with its own plants, founded on powder micronization.

Where is De Grandi based?

De Grandi has its production plant in Tromello, in the province of Pavia, Italy, at Via Buccellati 2/4, and its registered office in Vigevano (PV), Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 24. Production, the laboratory and micronization all take place in Tromello.
